Say no to Melatonin

Intro
We all remember when melatonin was all the hype. This would have been nearly a decade ago by now, and believe it or not (even after all of the bad press) people are still taking it. It gets worse…CBD companies are even putting it in their CBD products and marketing them as “sleep aid” products. Yes, even the big names! Yikes.
What’s Up With Melatonin?
Melatonin is a naturally-occurring hormone in your body that is produced to create drowsiness and ease you into relaxation, and eventually sleep. Melatonin is usually released from the pineal gland a few hours before sleep, or in response to darkness.
So, you’re probably asking why something that naturally occurs in your body might actually work against you when taken in excess. Well, the answer is just that. In healthy people, your body produces enough naturally-occurring melatonin to aid in sleep, and when you overload that natural production system for extended periods of time, your body may slow natural production.
Generally, if you feel the need to take melatonin every night for an extended period of time (2+ months), there’s likely an underlying cause—or you just haven’t found the world’s cleanest and most effective CBD yet. According to a study by the National Sleep Foundation, more than 50% of adults report that they have trouble falling or staying asleep a few times per week. Melatonin doesn’t actually tap into the root cause of insomnia or other sleep disorders. Frequent melatonin users often report waking up with a headache and feeling groggy. Others even report vivid dreams or nightmares along with irritable mood and bouts of depression, according to sleepfoundation.org

Melatonin + CBD = WTF?
We don’t honestly know why CBD companies put melatonin in their CBD products, but we do know it’s not to showcase their high-quality CBD! Bottom line — if you have to add melatonin to your CBD products for them to help with sleep, your CBD is garbage. Straight-up bunk, plain and simple. High quality, full spectrum CBD will 100% do the trick on its own - without any additives. This becomes increasingly true with higher doses when the THC compounds with the CBD in full spectrum products. This is known as the entourage effect, which is when different compounds in cannabis and/or hemp work synergistically to produce uniquely beneficial effects beyond taking CBD or THC on their own. While broad spectrum products may boast that they still produce the entourage effect even with the absence of THC, it’s simply not the same. The entourage effect is exclusive to full spectrum products and does not work to its fullest potential when THC is absent. Our 50mg CBD capsules have around 2mg of THC per capsule (25CBD:1THC for those of you who prefer ratios), which kickstarts the entourage effect for maximum therapeutic effects. Restless nights never stood a chance against these suckers.

When in doubt - ditch it out
While the short term effects of melatonin, such as using it to help sleep while travel, or getting over a cold may trend towards “safe”, the long term use and dependency on melatonin to sleep every night may not yield the same results for everyone. Your body getting used to supplemented melatonin resulting in a reduction of naturally occurring melatonin in your body, the effects on mood, or the simple fact that you can wake up groggy and out of it are reason enough not to take melatonin regularly. While it does naturally occur in our body, synthetic/lab created melatonin is not an ideal sleep aid by any stretch of the imagination. Our body also has cannabinoid receptors, and with our chemical free/solventless extraction process, unlike 99% of the other CBD brands out there, our products are as natural as it comes. Using just water, heat, and pressure to extract our CBD into coconut oil, it is a true representation of the hemp plant in its most natural form, not some isolate or distillate stripped down product that doesn’t work as described. Stay natural, stay clean, and choose the best - drop the melatonin today and enjoy a true good night sleep.
